Earlier this year, HealthEd submitted an entry to the Verizon Powerful Answers Awards—an inspirational contest seeking to address society’s biggest challenges in 3 categories: Education, Healthcare, and Sustainability. Out of 1300 entries, we are among 30 finalists and a Top 10 contender in the healthcare category.
About our entry—“Healthy Exchange Program”
Focusing on providing health education and health coaching to underserved communities through the use of mobile technology (in conjunction with Verizon’s technology platform), our proposal aims to connect and educate patients and empower them to make informed decisions.
The major goal is to relieve the pressures of hospitals to reduce preventable readmissions and ensure adequate education at discharge. Promoting self-care management between follow-up visits with patients' primary care providers, the proposed technology would let people access health-related information, stay connected to providers and local health service resources, and receive technology-based support to supplement in-person interactions with a healthcare extender.
The final round
On October 30th, HealthEd will present the proposal to a panel of influential leaders in the healthcare industry, for a chance to win a prize of up to a $1 million. We’re excited to have this opportunity to make a difference in the healthcare space and extend the reach of health education. Winners will be announced at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in January.
Good luck to all competitors—may the best idea win!
